FAQs

What is Aqualyx?

Aqualyx is a safe, injectable fat loss treatment. It is a gel-based solution, derived from cholanic acid, which is naturally produced by our bile ducts to help break down fats.

How does Aqualyx work?

Aqualyx dissolves the membranes of fat cells in the treated area. The fat cells become unstable and break open. The fatty acids contained within the cell are then eliminated by macrophages (part of the body's immune system) and the liver. The overall effect is a reduction of visible fat in the treated area.

What happens after my treatment?

After treatment, do not apply cosmetics to treated area for 12 hours. Avoid direct sources of heat and sunlight whilst inflamed. Abstain from demanding exercise for 5-7 days. Maintain a healthy diet while released fat is being metabolised to avoid fat storage elsewhere. Drink plenty of fluids. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours. Avoid nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication or aspirin for 24 hours.

How many treatments do i need?

For best results, you may need between 2 and 8 treatments (dependent on the area being treated) at 3-4 weekly intervals or longer depending on residual swelling and tenderness, as well as the amount of fat to be removed.

What are the side effects / risks?

All make-up will need to be removed prior to treatment. Aspirin, alcohol, ibuprofen and a range of supplements including; St John’s Wort, fish oils, Gingko Biloba, Vitamin C and E may all contribute to bruising and are best avoided 24h before treatment. Potential treatment contraindications include; pregnancy/breast-feeding, severe allergies/anaphylaxis, auto-immune disease, diabetes, acute or chronic skin disease in affected areas, blood thinning medications.

Where can Aqualyx be used?

Aqualyx can be used almost anywhere to treat stubborn deposits of fat. Potential sites include; chin, waist, ‘love-handles’, chest, jowl lines, hips, knees, inner thighs, upper arms, back and buttocks.
